Celtic sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal on five-year deal

Celtic have signed Scotland left-back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal on a five-year contract, the Scottish Premiership champions said on Tuesday. The 28-year-old, who made his senior debut at  Celtic  in 2015, will be back at the club after six years. He made 170 appearances for the Scottish club, scoring eight goals before joining  Arsenal  in 2019. "Everybody's known for a few months and just to be here with the Celtic strip on again just feels amazing,"   Tierney  said. "When you move away from home, you grow up, you learn different things. I was in Spain (with Real Sociedad on loan) for a year, learning a different language and playing in a different league, so I'm definitely a different person. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is scheduled to hold between June 14 and July 13 in the United States, with the highly anticipated halftime show billed for July 13 at the MetLife Stadium. Bandits abduct Catholic priest, nine others, kill one in Borno

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Afina and nine others have been abducted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along Gwoza-Limankara Road in Borno State. A source told Leadership in Maiduguri that one other person was murdered during the attack. The source added that Rev. Afina, the project coordinator of a Christian non – governmental organisation was returning from Mubi with two members of staff of the NGO in a vehicle when the terrorists ambushed them on the Gwoza-Limankara Road. The terrorists killed one of the staff on the spot , while they forcefully took the priest and nine others, while some scampered for safety. The family of the priest have confirmed that the terrorists had allowed Rev. Fr. Daniel Afina to speak with them, confirming his abduction, however, there has been nothing further since. Naira gains N32.38 against dollar week-on-week

Nigeria’s currency, the naira, has gained a significant N32.38 against the dollar on a week-on-week basis at the official foreign exchange rate market, DAILY POST reports. A review of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s exchange rate data between Friday, May 30, and June 5, 2025, showed that the naira firmed up to N1,553.12 per dollar from N1,585.50. This means that the naira increased its value by N32.38, or 2.04 percent, in the period under review. Apart from gains at the official FX market, the naira also recorded appreciation at the black market. DAILY POST reports that the Naira ended trading at the parallel market on Thursday at N1590 per dollar from N1625 exchanged on May 30, 2025. This indicates that at the black market, the naira gained N35 against the dollar in the period under review. Bill Gates urges Nigeria to continue momentum for polio eradication

Bill Gates, Chair of Gates Foundation , has advised the Federal Government to continue its longstanding commitment to end polio transmission in the country. Gates said this during a media roundtable with selected journalists on Wednesday in Lagos.
